Nobody’s perfect. We never will be. There’s always something to learn, and making mistakes — getting things wrong — is a crucial part of the learning process. Accepting this can make life a lot easier.
The Light Inside Technique makes use of both the positive and negative forces that make us who we are, ultimately making all our experiences useful for growth and self development.
I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my life, and will make plenty more, I’m certain. Some of my mistakes in particular resulted in me having to isolate myself for several years, struggling day and night with horrible intrusive thoughts, feeling mentally, physically and emotionally drained and defeated. The negative force was strong at that time in my life. Slowly, gradually, I’m working my way through it, turning the negatives into positives. Hard work, self discipline, dedication and devotion to finding the good in myself, in others, and in the world have been the result of turning the negative forces into positive forces.
It’s because of my mistakes/lessons that I’ve become stronger and have found more good in myself and others. As I mentioned, it took hard work, self discipline and dedication to get my basic needs for peace of mind and emotional positivity met. It was a hard lesson, but I would do it all again if I had to.
It might be obvious, but we don’t have to look for the mistakes, lessons and “negative” things in life. They just seem to happen, like it or not. What we can do, and must do if we want more good and positivity in the world for ourselves and others, is to practice seeing the good in things. This is an immediate way of getting basic needs met. Try looking within yourself, your mind, body and emotions. See anything good? Any positive thoughts or emotions come up? Notice any good physical sensations or comforts? What about in your surroundings? Can you see any beauty in the environment or people around you? Any good fragrance in the air? If you’re around people (and this is one of my favorite practices), can you notice any friendliness among the people you see? Any kindness, happiness, joy, laughter? Maybe companionship? Love and acceptance? Are the people respectful to each other, maybe simply because they’re doing no harm to each other and co-existing peacefully? Are there any animals around? Sniffing, resting, running, cuddling with their humans? All positives!
