In terms of our actions, what’s right and what’s wrong, and how do we determine that? The Light Inside Technique has a specific way of helping the individual find this answer for themselves.
As I’ve said elsewhere, if I think, speak or act from a state of anger, anxiety or sadness/grief, I see those qualities increase in myself and in others. It’s pretty simple… Just think of times you’ve acted out of anger. What kind of response did you get? Probably not a response you wanted. And if I allow myself to follow a train of thought inspired by sadness, more sadness and frustration and anxiety build up in my mind.
From this experience, it’s easy for me to determine what’s right and what’s wrong. If I want more peace, happiness, and positivity in myself and in my environment, then my thoughts and decisions and actions need to come from a positive place. For me, it’s that simple. It doesn’t mean that every problem will be solved or that everything will be perfect. It just means that I’m going to do my part in creating more positivity.
Remember, though, that LIT is a stress management technique. Reducing stress is the goal of the practice. The technique doesn’t tell us what’s philosophically true or false, or right or wrong. It simply helps us determine which of our thoughts reduce stress (reduce sadness, fear and anger) and increase peace of mind and positivity (happiness, joy, love, etc). We can then draw inspiration from this positivity and determine for ourselves how that effects the way we think, feel, and interact with our environment.
Again, drawing from my own experience and from reports from many others, when I feel more peaceful and lighter inside, then I see more peace and positivity in my environment. When I’m weighed down with negative thoughts and moods, then I tend to see more conflict, tension, problems and negativity in myself, others, and in the world at large.
The Light Inside Technique is a practice of seeing the good in things. While many different perspectives, including negative ones, are perfectly legitimate and even useful in different situations, LIT aims to strengthen the ability and habit of the mind to think positive thoughts, thereby improving our mood, relationships and overall quality of life. Further, if doing what is right means thinking positive thoughts and increasing positivity in ourselves and our environment, then LIT is useful and effective at reaching this goal.
